Admissions Requirements

Who Can Apply
South Post Oak Barber College welcomes applicants who are committed to developing their barbering skills and pursuing a rewarding career. We accept applicants who meet the following criteria:

  • Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 16 years old.
  • Educational Requirement: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
    • Note: Foreign diplomas must be evaluated and translated by a certified credentialing service.

Additional Documentation Needed

Applicants must provide the following:
  • Valid government-issued ID (driver’s license, passport, or birth certificate)
  • Social Security Card
  • Proof of Education (high school diploma, transcripts, or GED certificate)

Enrollment Process

Step-by-Step Guide to Enroll
  • Submit an Application
    Complete and submit your application form online or request a form from the Admissions Office. Our admissions team is available to help guide you through this process.

  • Provide Required Documents
    Submit all necessary documents, including ID, proof of education, and Social Security card.

  • Interview with Admissions Team
    After submitting your documents, you’ll meet with our Admissions team for a brief interview. This is an opportunity to discuss your career goals, ask questions, and learn more about our programs.

  • Financial Arrangements
    Meet with our Financial Aid Leader to explore payment options and develop a tuition payment plan that works for you. (See Financial Assistance page for details).

  • Confirm Enrollment
    Once all documents and financial arrangements are finalized, you’ll receive an acceptance letter confirming your enrollment at SPO Barber College. You’re now ready to start your journey!

Transfer Students

Transferring Credits

We welcome transfer students who have completed hours at other institutions. South Post Oak Barber College accepts transfer hours based on the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR) guidelines.

  • Class A Barber Program: Up to 700 hours may be accepted, based on proficiency exams in theory and practical skills.
  • Crossover Program: Up to 100 hours may be accepted for licensed cosmetologists.

Transfer Process

  • Evaluation of Hours: Applicants must provide official transcripts from previous institutions.
  • Proficiency Exam: Applicants are required to pass a practical and written exam with a minimum score of 75%.
  • Equipment Evaluation: Transferred students may need to purchase certain tools if they differ from SPO Barber College’s requirements.

Class Schedule Options

  • Full-Time Day Schedule:
    • Tuesday – Friday: 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM
    • Saturday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Part-Time Day Schedule:
    • Tuesday – Friday: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
    • Saturday: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Holidays and Closures

SPO Barber College observes the following holidays:

  • Thanksgiving Day and the following Friday
  • December 24 – January 2 (Winter Break)

Re-Entry Students

Re-Enrollment for Former Students

We welcome former students who wish to re-enroll within 180 days of their original withdrawal date. Re-entry students must fulfill certain requirements to resume their education:
Financial Arrangements: All outstanding tuition and fees must be settled or arranged before re-enrollment.
Academic Review: Previous hours and credits are subject to review, and re-entry students may be placed on a 30-day evaluation to ensure academic and attendance standards.
For re-enrollment after 180 days, students must undergo a full review and may be subject to updated tuition rates.
